Sleep position meanings

Fetal position is the most common sleep position. People who sleep in this position are shy and sensitive.

Soldier position. This sleep position is where you lie flat on your back with your arms at your side. People who sleep in this position are quiet and reserved.

Log position. This sleep position is where you lie sideways with legs stretched out and arms down. People who sleep in this position are social and easy-going.

Yearner position. This sleep position is where you lie sideways with legs stretched out and arms stretched out. People who sleep in this position are suspicious.

Freefall position. This sleep position is where you lie face down (on your stomach) with hands beside your head. People who sleep in this position are brash and gregarious.

Starfish position. This position is where you lie flat on your back with outstretched arms and legs. People who sleep in this position are unassuming and good listeners.

Now the most common of the above positions is the fetal position (around 51% of women sleep in this position according to Idzikowski). In terms of what positions you should or should not sleep in, if you are sleeping on your back or side (fetal, soldier, log, yearner or starfish sleep positions) then you should be fine. If you need to lie on your front or stomach to fall asleep, then there could be serious issues.

Sleeping on your front puts unnecessary pressure on your vital organs and strain on the neck and back. The same applies when people tell you to not sleep with arms crossed over your chest - it places unnecessary weight and pressure on your organs. I would recommend trying another position (even if you are brash and gregarious).

What does it mean when you sleep on your back with your head sorta tilted to one side and your hands locked together on your stomach? It's kinda like what a dead person looks like in a coffin only the head is tilted.

I sleep with my fists clenched so tight that my fingers hurt when I wake up. I also will cross my arms like you do when standing and sleep that way all night with fists clenched. Any ideas what that might mean?
